are waiting for the signed contracts to come back. (The
California Delta or Clearlake)

California at the Federation Nation Championship at the Western Divisional. At
the Federation Nation Championship you will fish against 11-12 angler group for
the Western Divisional Classic position. This email has been sent to all

Message from the Chapter President
We are always looking to make improvements, so in response to a few suggestions, the last 3 years CalBFN has held 2 events to qualify for the State Team; one (1) event for the North and one (1) event for the South. We believe this new format will help the Federation grow in participation as well as providing a great format for members all around the state to qualify for the Western Divisional.
Congratulations To Mike Rold of the True Fish BASS Club on winning the Delta event in the North and Allan Gillum of the South Orange County BASSMASTERS for winning the Southern Event at Lake Irvine. The 12 man team came this year from 8 different clubs throughout California.
The Western Divisional will be held on Flaming Gorge, WY in May 2012. The BASSMASTER Elites and Open will held in California in 2012 but we are hopeful for 2013. Rumor has it the California will host the Opens and the Elite for 2013. I am telling you this now, because our State Tournament in 2012 will determine the team fishing in 2013 Western Divisional (more information to follow in the upcoming months).
Check our website for update and more information,
www.calbfn.com. We also have photo galleries to see images from our past events. Now you can access the latest Federation news day or night. Send us your Club Photo se we can post them for you for other member to see.
With a new year in front of us, let’s go over this past year first. The Western Divisional was held on the Lake Navajo NM where Don Edmonds of the Golden State BASS club won the right to advance to the Federation Nation Championship in Louisiana in November 2011.
We continue to enjoy great sponsor programs for our members to benefit from. In this economy, reduced pricing from Triton Boats, MotorGuide trolling motors, and Mercury Marine make being a CBFN Member more valuable than ever. We would like to thank our sponsors Triton Boats, Mercury, MotorGuide, Berkley-Pure Fishing, Lowrance Electronic, Xtreme Lubricants, Powell Fishing Rods, Catch Em Caro Custom Baits, Evan Williams and Capt. Jack’s Jigs for being loyal sponsors in 2011 and beyond.
A program that will continue for 2012 is that each club will receive a certificate to buy $300.00 or 1 prop purchase from Mercury Marine with paid state dues (each club will receive in the mail) for fundraisers or member use. Simms Outerwear has joined B.A.S.S. and has an awesome new rain suit for 2012 with B.A.S.S. Federation Nation pricing. Toyota has stepped up with special pricing for any members purchasing a new truck or SUV. CBFN will keep you informed of additional benefits club members can take advantage of. Stay tuned to see more sponsor programs in the future.
Over the last few years I have been happy to meet and talk to clubs or their points-of-contact over the phone. Please keep me updated with your clubs designated POC so I can continue to share CBFN information with your members and remember to include their email information. Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions. Don’t forget to send your club registration in early so you’re insured by BASS/BFN before your first meeting or tournament!

Greetings;
With the first decade of the new millennium coming to a close, it’s time to look back to our roots. In 2004 Ray Scott sold B.A.S.S. to ESPN. On November 1, 2010 ESPN sold it to Jerry McKinnis and a group of investors. I have talked to Jerry and his dreams are to improve B.A.S.S. Let’s also remember those who have represented the California BASS Federation Nation (CBFN) at the Federation Nation Championship, 2006 Ed Peterson (Golden State), 2007 Mark Torrez (Ventura Bassmasters), 2008 Pat Wilson (Sonoma County Belly Boaters), 2009 Nick Woods (Siskiyou Bass Club) and 2010 James Smiley (South County BASSMASTERS).
Geographically, 2 anglers are from the south, 2 from the north and 1 from the Oregon Border. Also, last year the BASSMASTER Elite Series came to California for 2 events; one on the Delta and the other at Clear Lake. Both events were supported by the local clubs, and we are looking forward to their return in the near future.
This year’s Western Divisional event was held on Lake Martinez in Yuma, Az. James Smiley advanced to the Red River at Shreveport, LA. in October and finished 20th overall. The 2011 Western Divisional event will be held at Lake Najivo, New Mexico and the 2012 will be hosted by Wyoming. With the Northern Qualifying Event in the books there are still 4 spots left for the 2011 State Team. Our Southern qualifying event will be held at Lake Irvine on February 5 & 6, 2011. The qualifiers are open to all members in good standing.
Over the years our sponsors, Triton Boats, Mercury, MotorGuide, Lowrance, Toyota, XtremeLubricant, Evan Williams, Berkley, Powell Rods, Catchem’ Caro Bait Co. and others have stepped up and increased their commitment to CBFN Clubs.
Last year, each club was able to purchase Mercury products at a reduced cost; up to $200.00 of Mercury Product. With a renewal of state dues, this program will again be available to clubs in 2011. There is an extra Bonus for Club members that purchase Triton / Mercury Boat packages. Please feel free to have your members contact me if they are interested in a new boat purchase and/or Triton/Mercury programs.
Toyota has been
awesome this year, taking the State Team and the Youth anglers to dinner and
otherwise helping. Toyota has the only bonus program available for a tow
vehicle. If one of your members buys or owns a Toyota, make sure they register
for the Toyota Bonus Bucks program. We also would like to welcome our newest
sponsor Save Phace. Paul at Save Phace has put together a program that all club
members can take advantage of.
Our Youth director Jack Kriess wants to get more Jr. Clubs up and going. Please feel free to contact Jack @ 916-837-9474. In 2009, for the first time, a team of brothers (Travis and Tyler Bounds) represented the CBFN at Yuma.
The Casting kids program has ended, but we still have a few rods and reels and some targets left, so if you are planning to hold an event let me know. We will send them out on a first come-first served basis.
Please contact Mike Landy, our Conservation Director if you have conservation ideas or issues that need to be addressed. In 2010, Mike worked on set up of creek week, worked on fish care during the 2 Elite stops and at the Western Divisional and hosted an Invasive Species workshop with Fish & Game.
With 2011 around the corner, Federation dues need to be sent in to keep your club’s insurance active. As a reminder, B.A.S.S. Dues are $30.00 and dues for the CBFN are $5.00 for a total of $35.00 per member. Members may belong to multiple clubs, but only have to pay dues with one club each year.
Remember, 2010 dues expired December 31, 2010. If you go on-line to view your club’s status, you’ll see that as of November 1, all clubs have been reset. Updates can be made on-line any time, 24 hours a day. B.A.S.S. no longer prints membership cards for members but you can print them on-line.
If you have any ideas for the future growth of programs, please let the California BASS Federation Nation know.
