CBFN
Joins with DFG on Boat Inspection Training
February 8, 2010
California BASS Federation
Nation members joined the Department of Fish & Game and Sportsman’s
Warehouse to hold a half-day training session on boat inspections with the
goal being to prevent the spread of invasive species i.e. quagga and zebra
mussels.

Mike Landy, CBFN’s
Conservation Director, called Jason Roberts of DFG in the latter days of
2009 looking for projects to support. “I’ve wanted to partner with DFG for
some time and after hearing about Jason’s work, decided this was our
chance.” The CBFN’s conservation effort for 2010 will include inspections at
local tournaments and spreading the invasive species message by posting
signs and notices.
A dozen men and women participated in the February 6th workshop
which included both a lecture portion and hands-on practice with boats
brought in by Department staff. “We had a good representation of anglers,
agencies, and citizens in attendance.” said Roberts, an Environmental
Scientist with DFG. “The Department is committed to preventing the further
spread of quagga and zebra mussels in California.”
Sportsman’s Warehouse provided a training room and space in their parking
lot during the four-hour class. According to Jack Kreiss, CBFN Youth
Director, “Brad Schuelke, manager of Sportsman’s, welcomed our Jr. Club,
“NorCal Bass Ratz”, when we needed space for monthly club meetings so we
immediately thought of them when looking for a location to host this
training.”

CBFN provided pizza and
beverages to participants and also awarded Sportsman’s Gift Cards to a few
lucky participants.
CBFN looks forward to continuing their partnership with DFG through 2010 and
beyond. |
